Well, this is crazy but true. This stunning photo was taken by Rose Fletcher, a resident of southern Australia who captured it at Victor Harbour while the sun rose on New Year’s Day with ferocious fires burning nearby.

So how the Australian Aboriginal Flag

The Australian Aboriginal Flag represents Aboriginal Australians. It is one of the officially proclaimed flags of Australia and holds special legal and political status. It is often flown together with the national flag and with the Torres Strait Islander Flag, which is also an official proclaimed flag.

The symbolic meaning of the flag colors (as stated by Harold Thomas – the flag’s designer) is:]

  • Black – represents the Aboriginal people of Australia
  • Yellow circle – represents the Sun, the giver of life and protector
  • Red – represents the red earth, the red ochre used in ceremonies and Aboriginal peoples’ spiritual relation to the land
